ICA Växa is our innovation-driven work for a sustainable food system. The goal is to promote the consumption and production of sustainable and healthy food and sustainable packaging.
In the future, we will eat more plant-based, more varied and use more different proteins – both from the field, land, sea and the lab! Nutritious diet but also taste and texture will be crucial. We need to explore how we can produce, package and eat more sustainably and healthily.
With ICA Växa, we want to future-proof our range with sustainable and healthy innovations for a better tomorrow. In collaboration with innovators, local suppliers and partners, we drive development towards a sustainable food system.
• By 2030, we have reduced the climate impact of our customers' grocery bags by 30 percent
• By 2025, our customers will eat 500 grams of fruit and vegetables per day
• By 2025, all of our own products' consumer packaging made of plastic will be recyclable
• By 2030, all of our own products' consumer packaging will be produced from renewable or recycled raw materials
In the spring of 2020, we released the report “The Food Revolution - Sustainable Food System for Future Generations”, where we highlight the greatest potential areas for the Swedish food system to become more sustainable. The report is based on current research and has been developed in collaboration and dialogue with researchers, experts and stakeholders throughout the food system. The goal was to identify the areas of change where ICA has the greatest opportunity to make a difference and accelerate the transition to a sustainable food system for Swedish food consumption.
